The Faculty of Science and Technology, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, promotes local wisdom through a training activity on producing fabric printing paste from coconut husks, extending this knowledge into vocational creation.
The Faculty of Science and Technology, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, recently conducted a community engagement initiative in Samut Songkhram Province as part of the fiscal year 2025 project titled "Quality of Life Development and Income Elevation for Grassroots Communities through Science, Technology, and Innovation." On May 29, 2025, Lecturer Dr. Ploysai Ohama, the project leader, led a team of faculty members, staff, and students from the Science and Innovation program to organize a workshop on "Fabric Printing Paste Production and Natural Dye Screen Printing Techniques Using Coconut Husks." This event took place at the Bang Khon Thi Sub-district Administrative Organization, Bang Khon Thi District, Samut Songkhram Province, and saw active participation from local tie-dye fabric groups and community members.
This initiative focused on valorizing local natural resources, specifically coconut husks—a byproduct of horticultural practices by transforming them into value-added products. This was achieved through the dissemination of accessible scientific and innovative knowledge, designed for practical, daily application. The instructional team provided comprehensive guidance on the formulation and methodology for fabric printing paste, alongside demonstrations of eco-friendly natural dye screen printing. This aimed to empower local communities to enhance the distinctiveness and variety of their tie-dye textile products.
This project demonstrably aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 8: "Decent Work and Economic Growth," by enhancing vocational skills among the populace and fostering sustainable supplementary income streams. Furthermore, it contributes to Goal 12: "Responsible Consumption and Production," through its promotion of efficient utilization of local resources, reduction of agricultural waste, and creation of environmentally friendly products.
This initiative exemplifies the practical application of scientific knowledge and innovation to fortify grassroots communities. It aims to cultivate self-reliance, professional development, and authentic local economic advancement. This undertaking thus reflects Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University's integral role as a driving force for sustainable local development.
